Car,Truck & SUV Tires

Rice Tire: 3 – Easy and painless steps you can take to make your Car, Truck, and SUV Tires safer & extend their life over the road.

It is common for your tires to lose a little of the air pressure over time.  Especially during weather changes.  When driving your passenger car, light truck, or SUV you’ll want to pay close attention to this little detail though.

Did you know that a tire with 25% less air pressure than its recommended pressure increases the odds of a crash significantly and reduces your fuel mileage by up to 20% ?  If you notice that your tires are losing pressure more than they should you will want to get them inspected.

On new cars the sensors will more than likely tell you when pressure is low but on older cars that don’t have sensors, you need to be a bit more vigilant.

Common Causes for Tire Repairs

One reason your car tires are losing pressure can be due to issues with the wheels.

  • Valve stems:  Over time the valve stems can breakdown due to the chemicals used on the roads.  This will cause an air leak in the tire. If the valve stem or valve core has been tightened too much it will cause air to leak.
  • Damaged Wheels:  Every time you hit a pothole, curb or other road obstruction, it can damage the wheel.  Corrosion can also cause air loss when it is at the surface of the tire mount.

Road Debris

Another reason is tire damage:  Our vehicles can pick up all sorts of debris every time we take them out on the roads.  And the roads themselves can cause damage to our tires.

  • Nails:  Nails can puncture the tire when we run them over.  Sometimes they stay in the tire and don’t cause much air loss at all.  You still need to get it repaired. If it doesn’t, the leak could get worse and you may find yourself in need of a bigger repair, or worse, with a flat tire.
  • The Bead:  Sometimes a piece of debris can get between the tire and the rim, which allows for air to leak.  Age can also play a part in the bead weakening causing the tire to lose pressure.
  • Road Damage:  If you accidentally hit a curb or large pothole may cause damage to the tire that will cause it to lose air.

Rice Tire is the place to go in for all your tire repairs.

Our technicians strictly comply with the Rubber Manufacturer’s Association (RMA).  The RMA states that a punctured tire can only be replaced if the punch is no more than ¼ inch in size.  And it needs to be located on the tread of the tire. Per RMA recommendations, our technicians will repair the puncture with a plug and a patch on the tire’s lining, or seal the affected area. A correctly patched and plugged tire can safely be driven on for many miles.  Which is good news, especially if the punctured tire is new or otherwise in great condition.

Our service staff is also able to help if you have a valve stem is faulty or damaged causing the tire to lose air.   They can also fix a wheel that is not properly secured to the rim. We will keep you, and your car, traveling safely on the roads.
