Starting in 1967 with the foundation of Hanover Arts & Activities Facility, Ashland locals have spoken about establishing a Town Museum to tell the story of Ashland and also to give a safe database for historical artifacts that are both independently as well as publicly had however have actually been saved in numerous areas for several years.

Calling themselves, “The Ashland Museum Project,” the team held their very first main meeting on 31 January 2009 to start the process.

They’ve completed quite a bit until now. They have workplace and also archival storage space at the  Hanover Arts and Activities Center, thanks to the generosity of that organization. They’ve actually leased the Red Cottage at 105A Hanover Avenue and have opened it to visitors for display. They leased 105 Hanover Avenue and  built exhibits telling the history of Ashland, and are presenting both exhibits and history-focused programs for kids and adults in this space. A virtual museum located right on their website is growing quickly.  They’ve achieved non-profit status so that we can apply for grants to help us properly store any artifacts and photos that come our way for use by scholars, genealogists, students, and others.  Grants will also help them use our artifacts to develop additional educational and entertaining exhibits and programs for our citizens and visitors.

As the 150th Wedding Anniversary Yearbook did, we welcome “all those that ever before considered themselves Ashlanders” either by birth, marital relationship, accident, or for love of the town, to join our initiative.
